Within the scope of this study, ER&E has carried out the assessment of the earthquake risk of Turk Ekonomi Bankası A.Ş. (“TEB”) bank branches and subsidiaries located in the Marmara Region under seismic hazard. The activities performed under this assignment have been conducted under three main stages, as outlined below. Within this framework, a total of 2077 buildings in 12 provinces in the Marmara Region were subjected to risk assessment.
STAGE-1: Compilation of Analysis Data
Within this stage, the following data related to the building stock were provided by TEB. Based on the available data, ER&E developed a dedicated methodology for earthquake risk prioritization of the buildings.
STAGE-2: Detailed Seismic Risk Evaluation
Using the data to be provided by TEB under Stage-1, together with the structural drawings to be obtained from the municipalities, information on the building structural system (frame/shear wall + frame, masonry) and construction material (reinforced concrete/steel/brick/stone), as well as soil parameters, a more detailed seismic risk assessment has been performed.
Using the building information and the earthquake parameters corresponding to the “Design Earthquake” level with a 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years, a building earthquake risk prioritization methodology developed by the project technical team has been applied and the results have been reported.
In addition, building earthquake risk prioritization has also been carried out and reported for the expected Marmara Region earthquake scenario.
STAGE-3: Building Seismic Performance Analysis
Based on the data obtained in Stage-1 and Stage-2, detailed seismic performance analyses will be conducted for high-risk buildings in accordance with the Turkish Building Earthquake Code, and a comprehensive performance evaluation report will be prepared.
